Power in Prayer

In writing on PiP, I decided to "dig for the diamonds" in what others have said about prayer...I’ll share some of them in a series of postings...

Dorothy Bernard said that: "Courage is fear that has said its prayers." That word "Courage" comes up again...so really, there is nothing odd about being fearful…it’s what you do with that fear that matters. You know what I do? I talk to God about it...and that's essentially what prayer is - a conversation (not monologue) with God.

"Prayer is weakness leaning on omnipotence." W. S. Bowd

Oswald Chambers said: "We have to pray with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties."

We all need Courage to lean on God in prayer; and be able say like Josephine Baker did “I believe in prayer. It's the best way we have to draw strength from heaven.”

The bottom line is that: “All prayers are answered if we are willing to admit that sometimes the answer is "no” (Anon)

Here are 10 other thoughts on prayer…

  1. "You can do more than pray after you have prayed; but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed." A.J. Gordon

  2. “I have seen many men work without praying, though I have never seen any good come out of it; but I have never seen a man pray without working.” James Hudson Taylor

  3. “There is no other activity in life so important as that of prayer. Every other activity depends upon prayer for its best efficiency.” M.E. Andross

  4. “Depend upon it, if you are bent on prayer, the devil will not leave you alone. He will molest you, tantalize you, block you, and will surely find some hindrances, big or little or both. And we sometimes fail because we are ignorant of his devices…I do not think he minds our praying about things if we leave it at that. What he minds, and opposes steadily, is the prayer that prays on until it is prayed through, assured of the answer.” ~ Mary Warburton Booth

  5. "Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees." ~ Corrie ten Boom

  6. “A man who is intimate with God will never be intimidated by men." ~ Leonard Ravenhill

  7. "Seven days without prayer makes one weak." ~ Allen E. Vartlett

  8. "We are too busy to pray, and so we are too busy to have power. We have a great deal of activity, but we accomplish little; many services but few conversions; much machinery but few results." ~ R. A. Torrey

  9. "Prayer is the secret of power." ~ Evan Roberts

  10. "Satan does not care how many people read about prayer if only he can keep them from praying." ~ Paul E. Billheimer
