I've received this email so many times that I felt it's about time to share it. Now, I don't know if it's a true story...however, I believe that it has some truths for us to consider:
FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY
In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.
The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring,"Case dismissed!"
The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays.."
The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."
The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."
The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned."
Sapphire's commentary:
You may laugh at this piece...when you're done laughing, I'd like you to ask yourself: "What do I say in my heart concerning God?" "Do I truly believe He exists or do I just act like I do so I can be accepted?"
The Bible has a lot to say about fools and even describes them - let's look at five verses:
Proverbs 1:7 "The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline".*- more commonly known as "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom..." (KJV) and we often stop there ...the verse continues to say "...but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Proverbs 12: 15 "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who listens to counsel is wise."*
Proverbs 13: 20 "He who walks [as a companion] with wise men is wise, but he who associates with [self-confident] fools is [a fool himself and] shall smart for it."*
Proverbs 14: 1 "Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands."* I just noticed the Psalm 14:1 and Proverbs 14: 1 both talk about fools...interesting.
Proverbs 14:9 "Fools make a mock od sin and sin mocks the fools [who are its victims; a sin offering made by them only mocks them, bringing them disappointment and disfavor], but among the upright there is the favor of God."*
I implore you to take a moment on this "April Fools' day" to take a good look at yourself and make necessary adjustments and changes. God will help us as we step up to the path and walk with the wise.
Happy April 1st - welcome to the 91st day, 4th month and 2nd quarter of this year and decade.
Remain wise! God bless us all.
