Don't stop pushing!

Last year, I watched an episode of 'Everybody loves Raymond' that had an unusual twist to it.
If you've ever watched any of the episodes, you'll know that the matriarch Marie has a way - actually many motherly and sometimes manipulative ways of pushing her opinions on everyone else. Well this episode was very different - in this one Raymond thanked his mother for pushing.
In his words,
'Thank you for pushing otherwise I'd still be in your womb.'
It was hilariously sarcastic and very serious at the same time.

I agree that a lot of us mothers are talented at "pushing" - in fact we're wired to push such that we sometimes don't know when to stop pushing. There is a time to push and a time to refrain from pushing however, we must never forget that pushing (for most of us) is how our children arrived on earth in the first place. Therefore, we must keep pushing out own down the word and way of the Lord to our children by our own words and way of life.

Like Proverbs 22:6 says, we must "teach our children right from wrong, and when they are grown they will still do right."* It is only what we teach them regularly that they can retain and live by. As they say, "if you don't train them you can't blame them."** There are many passages of scripture (see some below) that admonish children to listen to their parents and then stress how happy their mother will be when they live right...but we need to "push" the word first.

20 My son, keep your father’s [God-given] commandment and forsake not the law of [God] your mother [taught you]. 21 Bind them continually upon your heart and tie them about your neck. 22 When you go, they [the words of your parents’ God] shall lead you; when you sleep, they shall keep you; and when you waken, they shall talk with you. Proverbs 6:20-24 (AMP)
22 Pay attention to your father, and don’t neglect your mother when she grows old. 23 Invest in truth and wisdom, discipline and good sense, and don’t part with them. 24 Make your father truly happy by living right and showing sound judgment. 25 Make your parents proud, especially your mother. Proverbs 23: 22-25 (CEV)

As we celebrate Mother's Day, Mothers don't stop pushing.
Only then we can truly have a Happy Mother's Day because, everyday is Mother's Day - at least for me.

May you remain a Happy Mother all the days of your life...
